Best Hiking Trails in Gilgit Baltistan
- Fairy Meadows: To start hiking to Fairy Meadows, first, you have to reach Tattu village, for which a jeep is usually hired. From Tattu village, the hiking starts, which will take you to Fairy Meadows, and this whole trip typically takes a day. If you want to go further to Nanga Parbat (8126 m) base camp, you can hike for 2-3 days more to reach it. Otherwise, you can enjoy camping at Fairy Meadows. The views are to die for: lush green alpine forests and clear sky. The weather is usually cold, so people enjoy the warmth of a bonfire and spend a cozy night here.
- Rakaposhi Base Camp: The starting point is Minapin Village, which is located in Nagar Valley. This usually takes 1-2 days of hiking, leading to a cinematic view of Rakaposhi (7788 m). Lush green forests and glacier crossings also present incredible scenery. Camping under the sky full of stars and waking up to the most beautiful sunrise is what this place is all about.
- Passu Glacier Trek: People who seem to have an interest in glaciers, this one is for them. Throughout the hike you get to see the ice formations. Passu Sar and Passu Cones can also be seen. The starting point is Passu Village, and hiking takes about a day. It's located at an altitude of 3500 m.

- Patundas Meadow Trek: This one is perfect for those who love to go on a long hike, as it takes about 3-4 days to reach it. The starting point is Hoper Glacier, and it ends at Patundas. This one has both glaciers and meadows on its way. This one is located at an altitude of about 4000 m. The sites that can be enjoyed during the hike are Ladyfinger Peak, Passu Cones, and glaciers. Hiking can be a bit challenging, so people who are experienced will have no problem throughout the way.
- Khunjerab National Park: This is located near the Pakistan-China border on the Khunjerab Pass. Hiking can be half a day long or a full day long and is usually easy as compared to other treks. The trails are short, which are present around the national park. Wildlife can be seen, for example, snow leopards and Marco Polo sheep. Snow-covered mountains are a beautiful sight in this area. The altitude is about 4700 m, and therefore this place is very cold throughout the season.
- K2 Basecamp: This one is the most challenging route, which is only recommended for professional hikers. The trek starts from Askole village, and the duration is about 14-21 days. This trek is not for the weak. You get to experience a close view of K2 (8611 m), Concordia, and the Baltoro Glacier. One needs to be well prepared to hike on this trek.
- Deosai Plains Trek: This trek is like a wildlife journey. There are mild trails throughout, and hiking can last for about 1-4 days. Animals, flowers, a lake, and greenery. Everything can be seen on the way. To experience wildlife up close, this one is a must-visit.
- Rush Lake Trek: This one starts from Hoper Village and takes 5-7 days in total. Glacier crossings are present on the path, so the hiking can be a little tricky. This lake is located at an altitude of 4694 m and is one of the highest alpine lakes in the world. The views that can be enjoyed during the hike are Passu Cones, Ladyfinger Peak, Ultar Sar, Spantik, and a distant view of K2. Here you can experience the breathtaking views of glaciers, meadows, and lakes. People often visit it for camping and stargazing.
